Kent Under 18 Girls V Sussex and Essex

Another fantastic performance from the Kent U18 team on Sunday, not such a try fest as their last tournament but the weather and resolute defence by the opposition did keep the scores down. The overall

We firstly took on Essex, playing on the artificial pitch which was a first for girls and produced some good running rugby with both trys being scored by the winger after many phases of attack. Unfortunately the game was stop start due injuries and the game was ended early due to an injury to an Essex player.

The second game then had to be moved to a traditional grass and mud pitch, but remained highly entertaining with both sides looking to move the ball around. It was Kent's superior support play and inter passing that set them apart from their opponents. The pack were on form, clearing out the rucks and mauls well giving the scrum half the go forward platform to release the backs. They put relentless pressure on the Sussex line and at one point had four 5 meter scrums. All Kent's scores came form close in after sustained pressure. Sussex did come back with late try in the corner but was all to little and to late.

Kent players will be competing at an individual level against their Sussex counterparts when the South East regional trails are held in the new year and it looks like the makings of a good team.

Kent Under 18 Girls V Essex and E. Counties

A great triangular tournament for the Kent girls, with games against Essex ( hosts ) and Eastern Counties. The latter were their first opponents and Kent moved the ball around the pitch with a good degree confidence with some of the training ground moves being brought into play. Unfortunately E. Counties were over powered and never looked likely to score. Tries were run in from a cross section of the team showing the balance and inter play the girls are developing. The score could have been a bit more but for the cross bar and uprights which took a battering from the conversions. Kent came out on top 42 - 0.

Stiffer opposition was to come when we took on the hosts Essex. Good defence and last ditched tackles kept the Kent score down, they were also not getting quick ball from the breakdown to capitalise on. Kent's open running and interpassing at close quarters was much better in this second game which saw the back row bag 3 tries. Essex never gave a up but again Kent ran out worthy winners 36 - 12
